NAME: Yuna
CANON: Final Fantasy X
POINT IN CANON: 6 months post-FFX
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: Thus.
CANON HISTORY: Main character alert.
CANON PERSONALITY:
She's naive, serious to a fault, and doesn't ask for help.
-Auron
Yuna was born Fantasy Mixed Race, the daughter of parents who cut themselves off from their own peoples in order to marry. All that changed when she was seven and her father defeated the monster called Sin, dying in the process. Suddenly he was a hero to the world-spanning Church of Yevon, and all mention of his (conveniently dead) Al Bhed wife ceased. Still, Yuna remembers her heritage and considered it important to her even before she had the opportunity to meet her Al Bhed family. From an early age, she was exposed to the darker side of the world - after all, the occasion that brought joy to the whole world was her father's death. However, the rest of her childhood took place in an idyllic island paradise, where she gained a set of as-good-as-family and the opportunity to grow up more or less normal. Her childhood and her essential nature, though, brought Yuna to an early seriousness which she never truly lost.
I learned to keep smiling when I'm feeling sad, you know?
-Yuna
Yuna is a fundamentally gentle person; she cares a great deal for people's happiness and is in the habit of making people feel better before caring for herself. When someone proposes marriage to her, her thought is of whether such a wedding would make the people of Spira happy, not what she herself wants. As her friend Lulu says, the journey of a summoner and getting married are just two paths down the road of bringing happiness to the people. That goal is what, for most of her life, matters to Yuna more than anything. Not that she's incapable of wanting things for herself, though - as soon as she meets Tidus, she definitely wants him, for example - but that goal is never far from her thoughts. Although her summoner's journey is expected to end with her death, Yuna is always smiling, even when she's feeling sad. She pays a lot of attention to public appearance like that. She's ferociously altruistic, to self-sacrificing, one might even say self-destructive degrees at times. Will it make people happy? Then she will do it. Even if it kills her.
Summoner Yuna, your will is stronger than steel.
-Kelk Ronso
But Yuna is far from a pushover; that summoner's journey she's on? She took it up despite pressure from literally everyone she loves and who loves her to, you know, not do something that will kill her in the best case scenario. When she puts herself on a path to something like defeating Sin, she cannot be stopped by anything less than genuinely changing her mind. And while she generally comes across as meek and gentle, she will be the first one to stand up for any of her friends if they are attacked. She's a gentle, fragile-seeming, unstoppable force.
I will defeat sorrow...and I will do it without false hope.
-Yuna
...Almost. She changed her mind once, about that whole "inevitable death" thing - not because it would kill her, but because it wouldn't work. And in doing so, she saved the world for good this time, essentially dismantled the majority religion from the top down, and...lost the boy she loved along with the summon creatures she had formed a close bond with. At the time, she felt there was no choice, but now that she's fully appreciating the price that was paid (that she didn't know about beforehand), she's unsure whether it was really the best course of action. (In her canonical future, she will conclude that necessary sacrifice is bullshit. She's not quite there at the moment, but she's started down that road.) Now she's struggling with grief and uncertainty; she's living in a future she never expected to see, and the question of what to do now is pressing, especially since everyone in the world wants her support or guidance.
POINT OF DEPARTURE: Approximately 6 months post-FFX
ABILITIES: White magic (healing, buffs, Holy aggressive magic; mostly the first). She has the ability to perform a Sending, which is basically an all-purpose exorcism that Sends the spirits of the dead to the Farplane. How well this works in a different world is...dubious. She had the summoning ability, but since the aeons no longer exist, it's a moot point.
INVENTORY; the clothes on her back, a sphere (a type of recording) of her father, and her staff, Nirvana.
